A first cousin of mine was buried in Killarney on Saturday. While it is sad when someone departs this life you must look on the positive side.
She took a brain hemorrhage and did not suffer a lingering painful death.
Her husband and herself were strong Christians so passing into Gods hands was no sad affair.

I drove down to Killarney from Dublin on the M8 motorway to Cork city, then branched off at Mallow. There is something strange about that motorway, you don't feel the speed building up I peeped at the clock and found myself doing 180 Kph.,That's 120 Mph in old money,,too fast.
Just after I checked my speed I saw a Garda speed camera checking me too.
You know we have a beautiful country, green lush fields, animals feeding as I drove past.I ask myself why are we not feeding the world?
After the service we had a meal and I departed to head for Dublin, then I had a change of heart and I decided to go via Youghal.
My friend Eddie lives there and though I am in contact by phone I thought as I was passing I would drop in. Eddie has MS and he has been in a wheelchair for a few years now.
He doesn't complain much and after a cup of tea I was going to head off. Then they insisted I stay the night and head off the next day, so we talked till 1.30.

The trip home was great and I decided to stop at the Newbridge factory outlet.

I have been having the funniest time lately, the exams are on and my wife has turned into a full time teaching machine and the boy is doing good.
I am in charge of the dinners and we are going forward to having my last son through his secondary education.
A funny thing happened the other day. The famous Cathy stopped me! Cathy used to live in Raheny and work for the inland revenue, she is very good looking and a really funny girl.Well she jumped in and I told her all about herself, from what I remembered."How long ago was that?" she said..Imagine 3 years ago and I remembered!
She is a remarkable lady. So at journeys end I took out the camera "Sorry you can't you told me last time I should be a model, so I have signed up to an agency, so I can't allow you take any photos"
So I leaned forward to put the camera back under the seat and she planted a big kiss on my cheek.
"I just did that to see how long it would be before you stopped smiling!" Do you know Cathy I am still smiling.
So with bits of work here and there I carry on.
Frank a mate of mine had to go to hospital today, he had a stroke a few years ago. He is in good form in general, but paralysed down one side is no joke.
He had to go to the Bons a private hospital to see his special est..We drove over to his rooms, Frank went in and 15 Min's later he came out.
e175 for nothing."He just looked at my notes and said 'things are fine I will see you again in 6 months' Why did he have to go in for that?
We had a good laugh going home I have known Frank for more than 30 years.

40,000 Hot Women

Now there is a thing you don't often see when you have a camera..a 2010 Merc with a police car stuck into it! Opps Nice one lads.

Oh the last time I put in that heading about hot women I had 1,000 hits. Lads do you think of nothing else. I was talking about the Women's mini marathon the 28th time it has been run.The girls get sponsors and support many charities hundreds and thousands of euro are collected. It is quite a fun run and good for taxi drivers too. Many of the roads are closed off and buses run late or not at all, then when the race is on the cheaters get taxis to bring them 3 or 4 Kms, lying on the floor. Then you pull in on a back street and they hop out, full of the joys of spring.
It is a fun event and girls know how to have fun..Many men dress up 2 guys had tee shirts on "were doing it for the girls".
I had 4 girls going to Tallagh and they asked if I could go to the funeral home before 6.15.."Is that where you parked your cars?
"I asked...No the girl said they are closing my mothers coffin at that time and I want to put in my medal before they close it..I said I was sorry for her loss, but when I thought about it she may have died from Cancer and the daughter had run the race to raise money for Cancer research, that made sense.
I even worked up to 11.30 that night after 3 all nights as well.

Silly old Dad....Give us a tenner!

To all you cheeky kids doing exams from tomorrow...Enjoy the rest of your lives...

Protest over

Johns protest is over.

John I don't know what the outcome of your protest was but I suspect you were flooded out in that torrential rain we had.

It was a very effective protest and I hope you are well after your fasting.

God bless John Ayres and all true Christians

Bank holiday

Get a portrait of your pet, the money paid will be given to a pet charity, nice one

They say you can predict the economy by the length of the hemline, the higher the hemline the better the economy.. We are in for hard' times for sure.

Well I had a post all set to go. I pressed publish post and went to bed.
The post is gone off to the land of OZ leaving me to start again.

First thing I suppose is that Snow Patrol did an impromptu gig in the Brussels bar the other day..I don't know if it was for Guinness or the tourist board.

Then we had Westlife in Croke park, Mothers, children and grandmothers all in pink hats..It is some money spinner. There was not a hotel room empty in the city.
One lady from London had me say "The top of the mornin t' ya" three times into her Iphone, I was dropping off an Italian couple when I saw that London lady again so I shouted over "The top of the mornin ta ya" and got a great response.

Just to say the Italian couple were young and had a good time, but he told me that what surprised him were the "number of people looking for coins" (begging)
Begging is a real problem here in Dublin.

The Docklands festival was on with tall ships and market stalls along the quays.

Plus on the Bull island Clontarf surf magic held a huge kite surfing event. Sadly one thing was missing, WIND so I would mostly say it was a flop, I would really like my son to take it up this summer.
But over on the West coast they had a surfing event which put other surfer spots in the shade.

But surfing is the thing to do at Doolin

Just thought this might excite the' rest of you

The weather was really kind to us it was Sunday before we got some rain, the first in weeks.
Sunny Ireland is fantastic, never too oppressive and all the people look so much better.

One of the guys on my rank had a heart attack 40, looked fit enough.
Taxi driving is a stressful occupation, but not worth dying over.

There fatal hit and run accident with one of those illegal drivers that I go on about, he was pursued by a driver who saw what happened and was caught.
I don't know if it was this ore something else .But I picked up a taxi driver who told me that "In 9 days time there is going to be something really big in the news about these illegal drivers which will shock even you"
Now he would say no more, but it would be Tuesday for his News...
I will keep you posted.

No matter what happens there is a taxi near by. In Cumbria a taxi driver went berserk and killed 12 people. one taxi blogger from the area makes his post here

20 DAY PROTEST

Day 20!

Yes folks John Ayres has been on hunger strike for 20 days!

Shame on the Church for offering him no comfort and shame on the media for giving him no publicity.
What would be wrong in tackling this problem like it should have been dealt with years ago.

John will not stop!

It might surprise the media but we would like a better society.
We want these people exposed and punished.

A lot of people would like their church back too, !

Support John Ayres.

On pasing the protest which is ongoing at the arch bishops office in Drumcondra I spoke to John on a few occasions asking him to stop the protest at this stage.

17 days on hunger strike is too long.

The press ran with the headline about Graine Shoige getting a divorse, while no one it seems is asking why John is on hunger strike.

So I asked him to write it out and here it is..

The first anniversary of the Ryan Report has come and gone without any arrests in relation to the horrific abuse carried out in institutions by religous orders of the Roman Catholic Church.
Not even recomendations put forward by judge Ryan have been implamented, and considering the figures now being shown by the HSE abuse of children goes on regardless.
Religous abuse truth was started after the release of the Ryan report. Kevin Flanagan (founder) began calling for a full international criminal investigation by holding a 7 day hunger striketo highlight that under article 7 section 2, it is a crime to withold information from the Garda.

I joined Kevin that week in support of his cause. We continued to call for the I.C.I.U. to investigate the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland, by collecting signatures.
Now we are at the Arch Bishops palace, now known as the Arch Bishops resedence, holding a hunger strike to highlight the fact that very little has been done since the Ryan report was released although some of the inplementations of the Ryan report have been put in place, little else is being done.

Many of those named in the Ryan report still walk free. Why?

The owth of silence used by the church was put in place to again silence witnesses at the redress board.
Names of the abusers were delibretly crossed out to hide their identity.

We feel it is time for an international criminal investigation be put in place to bring out the truth in its entirity.

Boston news

Something from Boston re the mess we are in.
Pope assigns Cardinal O'Malley to help abuse-wracked Dublin archdiocese
EmailE-mail|Link May 31, 2010 07:30 AM

By Globe Staff

Pope Benedict XVI today named Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley of Boston to assist the Archdiocese of Dublin, which is the largest of several Irish dioceses reeling from a clergy sexual abuse crisis.

O'Malley will remain the archbishop of Boston, but will also have new duties as an "apostolic visitor" to the Dublin archdiocese, a job that will require him to "explore more deeply questions concerning the handling of cases of abuse and the assistance owed to the victims,'' according to a statement issued by the Vatican press office. He will also be asked to "monitor the effectiveness of and seek possible improvements to the current procedures for preventing abuse.''

The new assignment marks the fourth time in his career that O'Malley, 65, has been asked to intervene in a diocese that had been seriously damaged by clergy sexual abuse. In 1992 he was named the bishop of Fall River, a diocese roiled by the serial pedophilia of the Rev. James R. Porter; in 2002 he was named bishop of Palm Beach, where the two previous bishops had acknowledged sexually abusing minors; and in 2003 he was named archbishop of Boston, replacing Cardinal Bernard F. Law, who resigned over criticism of his failure to remove multiple sexually abusive priests from ministry.

The Catholic Church in Ireland has recently been struggling to cope with revelations of multiple abuse cases in church-affiliated institutions there.

O'Malley was born in the United States, but is a proud Irish-American who frequently talks of his Irish heritage. And the Archdiocese of Boston has rich and deep historic links to the Irish church; many local priests and parishioners are of Irish heritage.

Here is the statement issued this morning by the Vatican:

Following the Holy Father’s Letter to the Catholics of Ireland, the Apostolic Visitation of certain Irish dioceses, seminaries and religious congregations will begin in autumn of this year.

Through this Visitation, the Holy See intends to offer assistance to the Bishops, clergy, religious and lay faithful as they seek to respond adequately to the situation caused by the tragic cases of abuse perpetrated by priests and religious upon minors. It is also intended to contribute to the desired spiritual and moral renewal that is already being vigorously pursued by the Church in Ireland.

The Apostolic Visitors will set out to explore more deeply questions concerning the handling of cases of abuse and the assistance owed to the victims; they will monitor the effectiveness of and seek possible improvements to the current procedures for preventing abuse, taking as their points of reference the Pontifical Motu Proprio "Sacramentorum Sanctitatis Tutela" and the norms contained in Safeguarding Children: Standards and Guidance Document for the Catholic Church in Ireland, commissioned and produced by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church.

The Visitation will begin in the four Metropolitan Archdioceses of Ireland (Armagh, Dublin, Cashel and Emly, and Tuam) and will then be extended to some other dioceses.

The Visitors named by the Holy Father for the dioceses are: His Eminence Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, Emeritus Archbishop of Westminster, for the Archdiocese of Armagh; His Eminence Cardinal Sean Patrick O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston, for the Archdiocese of Dublin; the Most Reverend Thomas Christopher Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, for the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly; the Most Reverend Terrence Thomas Prendergast, Archbishop of Ottawa, for the Archdiocese of Tuam.

In its desire to accompany the process of renewal of houses of formation for the future priests of the Church in Ireland, the Congregation for Catholic Education will coordinate the visitation of the Irish seminaries, including the Pontifical Irish College in Rome. While special attention will be given to the matters that occasioned the Apostolic Visitation, in the case of the seminaries it will cover all aspects of priestly formation. The Most Reverend Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, has been named Apostolic Visitor.

For its part, the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life will organize the visitation of religious houses in two phases. Firstly it will conduct an enquiry by means of a questionnaire to be sent to all the Superiors of religious institutes present in Ireland, with a view to providing an accurate picture of the current situation and formulating plans for the observance and improvement of the norms contained in the "guidelines". In the second phase, the Apostolic Visitors will be: the Reverend Joseph Tobin, CSsR and the Reverend Gero McLaughlin SJ for institutes of men; Sister Sharon Holland IHM and Sister Mairin McDonagh RJM for institutes of women. They will carry out a careful study, evaluating the results obtained from the questionnaire and the possible steps to be taken in the future in order to usher in a season of spiritual rebirth for religious life on the Island.

His Holiness invites all the members of the Irish Catholic community to support this fraternal initiative with their prayers. He invokes God’s blessings upon the Visitors, and upon all the Bishops, clergy, religious and lay faithful of Ireland, that the Visitation may be for them an occasion of renewed fervour in the Christian life, and that it may deepen their faith and strengthen their hope in Christ our Saviour.

Cardinal O'Malley has just issued his own statement:

With deep respect for Pope Benedict XVI and sincere humility, I have accepted the Holy Father’s request to serve as Apostolic Visitor to the Archdiocese of Dublin during the upcoming Apostolic Visitation of the Church in Ireland. I look forward to meeting with Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and our working together.

The Church must be unfailingly vigilant in protecting children and young people. Our ongoing efforts in the Archdiocese of Boston to ensure their safety will be helpful for the visitation. It will also be important to respond to the concerns of the Catholic community and the survivors in the manner that will promote the process of healing.

The Holy Father’s letter to the Catholics of Ireland this past March made clear the priority of pastoral care and concern for all who have suffered from the sexual abuse of children by clergy and religious. His prayer that, “by drawing nearer to Christ and by participating in the life of his Church – a Church purified by penance and renewed in pastoral charity – [we] will come to rediscover Christ’s infinite love.’ will guide our efforts in this visitation. I ask for the prayers of the Archdiocese of Boston for me and for our brothers and sisters in Ireland. May the light of Christ, which is not overcome by any darkness, lead us forward.

And here is a news release from the Archdiocese of Dublin:

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin welcomes the Press Statement of the Holy See announcing that the Apostolic Visitation of the Church in Ireland, already announced by Pope Benedict XVI in his Letter to the Catholics of Ireland, is to begin shortly.

Archbishop Martin looks forward to receiving the Formal document which will define the nature and the precise terms and objectives of the Visitation. The Visitation is an important element in the broad process being set in place by Pope Benedict to assist the Catholic Church in Ireland in its renewal.

Archbishop Martin welcomes in particular the announcement that the Visitation is being asked to evaluate the current response to victims and the quality of the assistance which the Church in Ireland owes to survivors.

The Archbishop warmly welcomes the nomination of Cardinal Sean O’ Malley Archbishop of Boston, as Apostolic Visitor to the Archdiocese of Dublin. Cardinal O'Malley's experience and personal commitment render him particularly suited to bring ecclesial solidarity to the faithful and the clergy of the Archdiocese of Dublin at this moment, in which the Church in Dublin addresses the truth of a dark moment in its history and undertakes a period of conversion, purification and renewal.

The appropriate structures of the Archdiocese continue in their reflection on the grave facts identified in the Murphy Report and are offering full cooperation in the ongoing criminal investigation being conducted by An Garda Siochana in the wake of the publication of the Report.
