We need to stand together with our fallen brothers.

UNITY

Taxi drivers will on Tuesday, 13 July hold a silent candlelight vigil at the front gates of Áras an Uachtaráin, Phoenix Park from 8pm until 10pm.

The candlelight vigil is to draw public and government attention to the recent tragedies that have taken place within the industry and to highlight the emotional and financial difficulties experienced by full-time taxi drivers.

Spokesperson Lisa Corr said “all drivers suffering personal difficulties should make contact with Console
HELPLINE – 1800 201 890 to receive advice and support for any problems they are presently going through.”

I will be heading off for a few days R and R, but I won't be missed at the ranks there will be thousands more to pick up the slack.

My youngest son turns 18 this weekend so I am finished serving my children's every needs, they are now all adults.

Not much work done apart from cutting hedges and lawns etc.
I don't know where the servants have gone.

Some people of note, a guy from Hungary who was a dancer, going to Ballsbridge to do an audition. Dances loads of styles, except the tango. When were nearly there he got a text."Goog luck,I love you, hurry back, I will be waiting for you here in bed."

Then a Philipeno looking for the Irish nursing board on North Brunswick St. We went down the street and couldn't find it. So I pulled in and looked at the letter again. I rang the number and they told me it was on North Star Ave.
Look I said "Just so that you get off to a good start here in Ireland I won't charge you for the trip." She was a single lady and I added that I hoped that she finds a charming Irish man during her stay.
"I think I have found one already." she said handing me €5.
She will be a great nurse.

Living here in Dublin we often don't know whats on, So I looked it up.
Try here
Here is another good one.

Showsto see? try
...

Or where to eat?
No, you can't come home to my house with me.
Parnell St has a raft of Chinese restaurants which do lunch for €6.00.
On Liffey St there is a cluster of places under one roof called Cornucopia.
Most of the pubs do a good cheap lunch menu.
Try this website.. the people write their own reviews.

This weekend the "Young people of Ireland" have gone to Oxygen.

AS for myself I went to see La Cirque .It is a once in a lifetime experience.
Look here

Here is my favorite act in the show.
It is the energy and their ability to present to you their act in a manner that says.
"For the first time ever,I present to you only,my show. Enjoy"

I suppose they have fire in their hearts.

Just in case you never ever saw this..

Now for all you people trying to give up smoking.

Roys blog carried a tragic story 3 taxi drivers took their own lives this week. Things are desperate for many drivers and today one radio station took up the story."You can;t be serious working for 10 hours for e80 and then having to pay out 20 for fuel, how can you live?"
One guy said he did not eat for 2 days things were so bad.

Look I won't comment but to say there is help available the Samaritans etc. Talk to your partner, brother sister.

But don't take your own life.

Your parents, children, grandchildren and your partner will suffer for decades.

Take a step back and buy a pair of Doc Martin boots to kick the crap out of any politician who might come knocking on your door in the run up to the next election.

I know at present this story may not be of comfort to you but.
In America the weevil was destroying the cotton crop, people were desperate and then one bright spark decided to grow peanuts instead and they became prosperous again.
So they built a statue to the weevil!
There are other things to do.

I don't know when the torture will end, I don't even know the guys on the ranks any more things have changed so much, everything has gone down the tubes.

I was at the Mater hospital looking for a wheelchair and no porters, plus no one seemed to care!

Then there are the new tests to look forward to.

Imagine I crossed the 500th posting and didn't notice!
At least some people are reading it now.

I was working too much over the last few weeks with little result, like "A one armed paper hanger" as my friend Laurie Walsh in Australia would say.

At the risk of repeating myself, something happened a few years ago. I picked up a lady at Heuston station going out to the Spa well pub, she didn't say a word and sat in stony silence all the way.
As you come out of Templeogue village and you approach the Cheshire home the road widens up and I was doing 40 MPH when I was stopped.
He was a real pain in the ass, asked me what the speed limit was, each tome I said 40 and he would ask again and again. Then I said that perhaps it might be 30. "Then why were you doing 40?" He checked the tyres, lights, tax and insurance.
My picture was affixed to the new fare card with a paper clip, so I was to be fined for that as well."You passenger will be fined for having no seat belt"
With that she explode in tears, she howled with great emotion which shook us both.
The copper was so addled that he said.

"Take that woman home at once" There was no fine.

She had been at the funeral of her best friend and had been in such shock from the moment that she heard the news that she couldn't cry..
The aggressiveness of the Garda broke through the dam and released a tidal wave of grief.

I think all us men can all be a bit like her at times.

I had bought a box set collectors addition of Cinema Paradiso, 3 DVDs director cut and a CD with 20+ arrangements of the wonderful music soundtrack.

So I watched it once more last night and today "The laxative of emotions" has worked and I feel great.

Now we must clean the house before we take a few days in Kerry.

Down in my local pub there is a corner where taxi drivers and ex taxi drivers sit, the misfits.
Among our group is Joe he is around 80 and goes under the nickname "La Cukkeracha"
When Joe drinks whiskey he bursts into song and we all get thrown out.
The barman knows that one of us was bold and got him the whiskey.
But in a few days we are allowed back in again.

Such is life.

I brought Jo home the other day he turned to me and he had bad news.
His Grandson had gone to Thailand to visit a friend who lived there and he hired a motorbike, he crashed and is in a coma in hospital.
His daughter and her husband had to fly over to be at his bed.
Last word is that they are holding him in a coma until the brain gets a chance to recover from the trauma, then they can assess the damage.
Poor old lad, he was a Naval chef and called out to me as I drove off. I'll bake you an apple tart john.

So say a silent prayer to which of the Gods you turn to.

Sunday Sunday

Sorry this camera photo is so bad.
Glass on the road and a girls sandal? Think about it.

East Wall the Swiss Cheese building

The Aviva stadium known as the "Urban Turban"

A baby waves from a flat in North King St.

What do you think about all the Russian spies getting caught?.

Do you any of you need a place to hide?

The other day A guy got into the car, he was going to get the bus into town then another bus out to the airport to hire a car.
So I talked him into taking a taxi directly there.
He was an Indian guy working in London at IT.
Well, during the trip to the airport I found out that he was about to do a very dangerous thing.
(at least I think so)
Think about this, he was going to surprise his girlfriend by dropping in!
Now that seems to me to such a bad idea,it is so full of pitfalls, she might be away for the weekend, or she might have planned to go out with the girls, or she might be on a date with a charming taxi driver she just met.
Fine, make a visit but say,
"Can I pop over to see you this weekend"?
The scope for things going wrong are endless.

I hope it went well mate.(I told him about the blog)

Do you want a hen house, this guy makes them.(www.thegoodlife.ie)
I would love to know why links only sometimes work.

Just spent 2 hours cruising around looking for work and got nothing, so I am back at home, still I am lucky compared to most people, I own my house.

I was passing a lady in a BMW changing a flat wheel, so I asked if she needed help, she accepted gracefully.
So many people when you offer help are agressive.
It is a real bitch to get a wheel back on when there is no stud to hang the wheel on again, so I got it on and my hands were dirty. She asked me in to wash my hands, and folks she lived in an absoute palace.
Its not what it seems, she said, we bought this house and then spent over €400,000 doing it up. My husband was a builder and now we are divorced and into incredible negative equity.
The bank want to sell it and even then I will owe money.
She showed me an amazing feature in the kitchen, she hit a switch and a panel in the floor opened up to reveal a cellar which ran under the garden.
The house was so fantastic that I thought Ozzy Osbourne was going to walk in any minute.
Makes you think how many people are really suffering behind the beautiful facades.

No,I am counting my blessings, I am not not gloating.

A Spanish women seemed lost around Kilmainham, so I offered to give them directions. Car hire, yes Avis over there,, no Hertz. Well you are a long way from there, you have to go back up to Guinnesses up Dinore ave, turn left at Sally's bridge past the Mosque and there it is.
I will run both you there for €5.00 it is 1 1/2 miles.
Normal Sunday fare €8.00
No, we will walk.
Now I think that if you hire a car from 3.00pm the charges start from then, so It was costing them money there and then.

Perhaps I don't have an honest face!

I am a bit angry at the Garda too!
Why?
Well I saw a black Skoda car with an Irish number plate 01 D 87571
So what? you say.
Well there was a Northern Ireland number plate under the Irish plate, I could see the yellow edge of the plate undrneath.
So I dialed 112 and passed the details, "What do you mean it has 2 number plates?" so I tried to explain and I then saw a Garda car coming along. I started to talk to them and stopped the car
"Are you on medication"? I said
Then he screwed down the window to ask me what I meant,SO I gave him the number of the car, "Its 2 minutes in front of you"
How do you spell your name?
So off they went.
10 minutes later they were going the other way eating cake!

You often hear how people report crimes all the time and nothing is done about it ..Tax out of date? car gone.

Mauritian radio here, there are loads of modern stations.

Happy Fourth of July

Lighthouse cinema whare you will see quality movies, not the blockbuster movies.

Shaheen from Mauritius its an Arabic name, she tells me to listen to the music from her island, "You will dance for sure"she said

North King St. Cheap service !

I just Googled Kandahar radio for you and you can get it here But you will need speakers on your computer!.

A good joke on the radio. "About my mum, she gets all mixed up with new words, like Al Kiada and Ikea. When we had the sofa delivered she was hiding and then asked me why the Swedish people wanted to kill us all?"

I had a nice bit fun in the newsagents yesterday.
I won €5.00 and having checked it on the small scanner I asked the girl on the desk if she had enough cash for my winnings or should I go to the Lottery headquarters?
She put it into her machine and said. "Its a winner all right, In will have to ask the boss if I can give you that much cash, hold on.
She served the next customer and then said.. No its OK there's a €5 here alright!
A few people in the shop enjoyed the joke..But one day?

I once picked up a guy at the bus station who asked me to take him to the Lottery HQ "Man its only around the corner" I said, but he wanted to be brought in a taxi. When I was 1/2 way through the journey I realized he had won a big prize.
I congratulated him and never heard anything more about him.

Which is how it should be.

If you do win the lotto.
Keep it quiet don't even tell the cat!
But that is another story to tell on another day.

All taxi drivers should have jokes to tell their clients.

Jokes and stories for all occasions.

A guy comes home from a long trip away from his wife.
They have a romantic lunch and off to bed where they have wild sex.
The man falls asleep and when he wakes up he gets dressed and puts €50 on the pillow.
He is just walking out the front door when he realizes what he has done and where he is.
Rushing back to the bedroom he sees that his wife is still asleep and he tries to get back into the bed, but he finds his €10 change on the pillow !

But real life is stranger than fiction!

One of the guys was telling me that he got a radio call to collect 5 people from and apartment complex the other day.
When he entered the complex he rang to get an exact location and to tell them that he was there,
When he went around the corner there was a girl waving him down. She jumped in and said I'm going to Phibsboro.
You came out here very fast, where are the other 4 people?
What do you mean? I just stopped you now.
Look I'm booked for 5 people,so get out.
With that she stood up and took off her dress and sat back down wearing nothing but a small pair of panties !

So the story unfolds.

The 5 people come out and see a naked girl on the back seat of their taxi!

What the hells going on?

So the taxi driver explains how she got in and then stripped off when he said he was booked..

Then a police car pulls up.

"Is there a problem here driver?"
A female garda gets out of the police car and sees the naked girl and demands an explanation.
So then the female garda gets into the taxi and bitch slaps the girl.

"What in hells name do you think you are doing? Put your fucking clothes you stupid bitch! then she gives her another slap!"

So she gets dressed among the crying and sobbing..where are you going?
Me phone won't work I don't know.
So she handed the phone to the driver who dismantles it to find that the chip is in the wrong way around. When this is corrected she makes a call, Right its *********** St.
So off went the 6 of them.

When she arrived at the address she ripped off all her clothes and ran down the street naked shouting
"Here I am honey"
Her boyfriend paid the taxi though the driver felt that they should have been paying them after such a show.

You can't be too careful though.

Drivers! Lydil are selling Dictaphones for around €20.
Imagine a case of he said, she said?"
Now imagine if you had taped it?

Whether this story is gospel or not we all have had really strange things happen to us at one time or another. Some funny, others tragic others still really scary..Remember 2 years ago or so a taxi picked up a guy and an assassin shot the passinger 20 times or more through the passinger door without hitting the driver.
The hire purchase company took the taxi back and left the driver with a big bill.

Sorry on moving the post forward a comment was lost, you are just too fast 4 me.

Took the night off

These are the folks from Brazil , dissapointed. I don't think so.
Wow Kudos from Brazil !
High praise indeed.
Well tonight I went wild and went to a fundraiser for the Central Remedial Clinic.
A Tango Argentinian night.
You might know that I find Astor Piatzola and tango music great!
If you go to the box on the top left and type "silver fox" you will see tango dancing like it never went out of fashion.
So I bought a ticket and went to the fundraiser
Both dancers knew of the blog! so lessons are coming up.

So there you have it.
Here is Astor

Here is the Taxi dancer.

This is the guy I call him the silver fox.

Day off ? Not me

Scary lady(It turned out she was not quite so scary)

Viva Brazil the Metro paper agents..

Free bike relocation truck.

Wow what do you think of the lady in black?
She has a blue tongue and is very mysterious.
I took a photo of her and she got down from her carriage and gave me a black envelope and a big hug.
Then I asked her what it was all about.
She is protesting about corruption in government and about child abuse. Then I said I had supported John Avers hunger strike (Look at May 29) "Me too" she said. And we were soul mates. "Come with me to the GPO to protest" I declined and I got a lift to the Central Remedial Clinic in Clontarf with a guy from Kuwait we had a great conversation and while he finished his business I had a cup of tea in my house and then brought him back to town. A well educated man from a different cultures it was a voyage of discovery for me.
When I dropped him off a Blond girl waved to me. I looked behind me to see if she was waving at anyone else, no it was me ! and there was the lady in black all in normal clothes with John Ayres beside her. So we chatted and had coffee. A while afterwords a guy joined us who knew Searon from the time they were in Haiti together, he was a chef, then we looked at photos of the disaster, what a mess.
You can go to Facebook: united revolt of 2010
Then I brought John Ayres home and collected my son and his mates and brought them all home.
On My return to the rank I met a lady from New York who is now living in Galway I spoke about how safe New York was and she told me that her son who is now 22 had been offered drugs many times while at school in Galway. But never ever when he was in America. Drugs are everywhere here.
My last fare of the day was a clynical psychologist.
"If you don't stop asking me questions you will have to give me your taxi!"
Joking

I am posting a lot more often than I normally do so as to hold on to a few more of my new new visitors.Yes YOU !

Waiting at 7.30 round the block for the immigration office to open around the corner.

Meet Jannmarie Truesdell.. Guess what she does for a living?

Another week over and the weather is still good.
"Good Day Sun Shine" as the Beatles would say.
When the sun shines in this town it is the best place in the world.
Look at this video if you don't believe me.

Can't say there were any great highlights but here are a few snippets.

I got up at 5.00am on Monday and went to the ferry where I got a run even before the Ulysses had docked,a very rare thing that. The guy I picked up was coming back from Liverpool where his Polish girlfriend now works, the way things are he will be going over there himself soon, there is little work here, so I rushed right back to the boat and got a second run to Drumcondra.A black girl whose sister has just had her baby a few weeks early in England. When you book flights in advance it costs more to change the date than the flight cost in the first place. So being a bright thing she took the ferry over and back.We got on to the subject of age.She really looked around 20 or 25 not one year more, she had no wrinkles on her face. She was 38 !
Her boss thought she was around 26 and she described how she explained when she started working there and how old she was when she started...It was really very funny.
"When there is no strong sun black people don't age" So Ireland is the land of youth.

A girl from the train station heading to the airport, not off for a holiday.
She has a construction company there Civil Engineering, building roads etc.
"The work stopped here we had been in business here 15 years, we had Polish staff and rather than loose their skills we re located to Poland and we are flying".

Now that's what I call using your brains.
So I told her about my Polish girl who was being bullied at work.
She had an Irish engineer who was bullying 2 Lithuanian workers, he got a verbal warning then a written warning and then he was sacked, now he is sitting on his backside in Ireland because he wouldn't have manners.
I have said it time and time again.. The people who come into your country to work are the people with ambition and drive. They are keeping this country going.

Another run to the airport was 2 guys flying out one to the UK the other to Monaco.
Monaco has changed a lot he said, loads of Russian mafia and criminals from eastern Europe, you should come back to see for yourself. It was always a strange place.
Harry Houdini spent a lot of time there studying the people and the graveyard where they buried the suicide victims who lost all their money in the casino !
Houdini was a truly remarkable man.

Anyhow it is more profitable to bring the people of the world around Dublin than to go there myself, but if travel broadens the mind I am a very broadminded person..

A happy girl from Georgia, so many Polish people Russians are very confident and stand in a way that shows you that they are really sure of themselves. (Do you know what I mean) I was good to get a fresh opinion on the Russian/Irish point of view as well.

Doctor to the Hospital in Jame's st. talked about the bullying at work thing again.
Problem is that it can be very subtle, and it may just be that the victim might have a persecution complex..That could be true too.

My third run to the airport was a young American couple just finishing their break here, he is off back to the states to study medicine, that's a tough enough gig. plenty of opportunity to make grave errors.

Some people!
Sandymount village to Connelly station, in the back way which landed her on the platform..Done in 11 Min's and for my feat speed in getting there I got the exact fare for my trouble.. I will have to remember all the times I was promised substantial reward only to get screwed at the finish.
One woman was under extreme pressure and we agreed double the fare or the ride for free if I was late when I went my way. the fare was e18 she handed me e20 and said keep the change..She could never have luck.

So "Cash on the dash before we go"

The conference center opened up and they are doing that TV show X Factor there.
Louis Walsh, and co were all there.

Every time I drive through Kilmainham I pass a plumbing supply place and I think of a guy I brought there a few years ago. He was from Persia and had left his country when the Shah was deposed, as did a lot of wealthy people.
Well he told me he had paid 1 million punts in tax and he had to pay another 18,000 and the girl in revenue was calculating the fees and interest payable. He was so angry as they had done nothing to produce this wealth and he reckoned he didn't even owe the million. He was going to borrow the money from a friend..I didn't have enough on me to settle up his debts that day.

And Jannmarie? she is a forensic anthropologist but her first major was in music.
So by your bones she will read your misfortune.
Thanks for the educational experience.
